GarLyn Zoo in Michigan's Beautiful Upper Peninsula

Chineese Red Golden Pheasant
This has got to be one of the most colorful pheasants. Very easy to raise and breed and is a favorite for beginner and seasoned collectors.

Another beautiful pheasant that is easy to raise and can be a great starter for the young avian enthusiast.

Wild Turkey
One year 4 Tom (male) Wild Turkey wondered in off the road and two years later a couple hens wondered in. They never left and have been together here for about 4 or 5 years now. They nest where ever they want and usually raise two batches of chicks each season.

Peafowl - Peacock and Peahens

Peacocks are everywhere at the zoo. Both the Indian Blue pictured above and pure white ones. They are allowed to roam free and also nest and raise their own young. They are quite tame and some will eat from your hand.

There are dozens of different pheasant species and many of them are inexpensive and easy to raise. Raising them is a great way for young people to get a feel for nature and build a love for the animals. I personally started raising pheasants and peafowl when I was in high school and still find them one of my favorite animals to watch and enjoy.
