North American Raccoon
We no longer have raccoon at GarLyn Zoo.
Both Raymond and Rita passed away at the ripe old ages of 11 and 12
years old. This is old in raccoon years. They were great animals but
will not be replaced as they are nocturnal (active at night) and
very few people got to see them anyway. I am leaving the web page
active for the pictures and information only.
Raymond was purchased from a breeder when he was
8 weeks old and Rita was a rescue. Both raccoon get along good together
but have never had young ones. This is o.k. we don't really need more
raccoons. The population is doing just fine on it's own.
This is Raymond above at 10 years old.
Raccoons don't generally make a very good pet. They usually turn mean after
a few years. Raymond is at times a little feisty but Rita has remained a
good temperament all these years, It may be the
difference between a
male and a female raccoon .
