GarLyn Zoo in Michigan's Beautiful Upper Peninsula

Striped skunk at GarLyn Zoo. Yes, the skunk at the zoo are descented meaning they can no longer spray. This is important for any captive skunk. As you know this is the skunks defense against trouble or danger and what a defense it is. Skunks have a bad reputation of carrying disease but skunks have been in captivity for years and unlike the wild skunks they are basically clear of disease and make an interesting pet. They can be house broke and trained to use a litter pan like a cat does.

Here at GarLyn Zoo the skunks are raised in more of a wild environment and not handled a lot. They are fed a variety of vegetables, carrots, sweet potatoes, dog and cat food.
