Wallaby

This is a Swamp Wallaby pictured above
We have had both Swamp and Bennets Wallaby here at the zoo. We now have
Bennets Wallaby here at GarLyn Zoological
Park. There are several species of wallaby all are marsupial (Have Pouches). Ours
are a little over 8 years old now shows signs of having a baby (Joey)
in the pouch. We are planning to get a couple more wallaby in hopes of getting them to
breed this upcoming year. Here at the park they are kept in a large pen and fed good grass
and clover mix hay along with a pellet made just for wallaby and kangaroo. They also love
apples and carrots and are given monkey chow as treats. Sweet Potatoes are
an all time favorite. They will drop whatever they are doing and come
running for a sweet tater. The pen is about 6 feet tall and
has contained them quite well. Wallaby are long jumpers, but not high jumpers.
Swamp wallaby do well even in our cold climate here in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. When it
starts getting cold we do supply some heat, but the wallaby are allowed to go outside at
any time and the snow doesn't seem to bother them a bit.
