We Built a Zoo not We Bought a ZooUnlike the movie "We Bought A Zoo" where they bought, rebuilt and saved an existing zoo. GarLyn Zoo started in 1993 with the love of animals, a dream and a section of untouched Upper Peninsula forest. We built the zoo from the ground up. A lot of people dream it - we did it. We built the zoo to share our animals with you and your family. You can read our full story here. 2012 will be our 19th year in operation and that's due to the fact that people enjoy our animals and what we've done. Come on in, enjoy it, see for yourself why so many people like GarLyn Zoo. You too will be pleasantly suprised.

Welcome,
GarLyn Zoo is located on US-2 in Michigan's beautiful Upper Peninsula. We're just 6 miles east of Naubinway, 40 minutes west of the Mackinac Bridge. The zoo is a small intimate family run zoo nestled in the mature pine forests on the shores of Lake Michigan. We offer a child friendly atmosphere and people friendly animals. You will enjoy the natural wooded appeal of mature pines and cedar mulched trails. Feed and view the animals up close. See and enjoy animals from around the world. This is just what you come to the Upper Peninsula for, a walk in the woods and to see live animals.

Grain can be purchased to hand feed many of the animals including whitetail deer, sika deer, pygmy goats, llamas, chickens, ducks, peacocks and yes, you can even feed Fuzzy the bear.
(Grain and apples are available for purchased in the gift shop, sorry, no outside food can be brought in to feed to the animals)

On average you can expect to spend about an hour or so to enjoy the zoo. This makes GarLyn Zoo  a nice stop on your way to or from other Upper Peninsula attractions such as Tahquamenon Fall, Big Springs or Picture Rocks.

A hand wash station is located just inside the back door of the gift shop. Please be sure to wash everyones hands after feeding and petting the animals. Porta potties are also provided on site for your convenience. For those that prefer, a full facility rest area is located just 3 mile west of the zoo on US2.

The Zoo is home to both native North American animals including, alligator, black bear, wolves, bobcat, whitetail deer, cougar, river otter, skunk, porcupine, bison and some exotic animals from around the world, wallaby, patagonian cavy, ring-tailed lemur, camel, reindeer, sika deer, sulcata tortoise to name a few. Be sure to check out our Animals representing 6 of the 7 continents of the world. We trust you will find our web pages and the zoo to be both entertaining and educational.

We are in the process of updating our website. You may see and experience some bumps, glitches, hiccups and burps. Please bear with us for a few days. You can email us if you have time, to point out problems that we may not be aware of.
