Whitetail deer are one of North America's most abundant animals. Pictured above are a couple of the bucks at the zoo. Whitetail deer, when bottle raised can become quite tame. Although from my experience, if raised without the company of a tame adult deer, they are little rockets when something spooks them. They will suddenly bolt in any direction without looking first. When a calm adult is present, one that is used to it's surroundings and doesn't scare easily, the little fawns seem to feed off their reactions and not bolt as far or as fast. Whitetail seem to be a little bit pickier eaters than some of our other deer. They seem to only want only the nicest, leafiest hay and will leave most stems uneaten. We also feed a deer pellet and sweet feed mix twice a day. In the winter they also get silage bales of grass and clover mix.
